What Is A "Spacer"

A spacer is always recommended while using puffer, especially for people having difficulty in breath coordination, regardless whether using puffer daily or during an emergency. A spacer is a clear plastic container shaped like a tube with a mouthpiece or mask at one end and an insert cavity for an inhaler at the other. Spacers help to get medication such as in respiratory ailments into your lungs. The medication is "fired" from the puffer into the spacer device and is then inhaled gradually through the mouthpiece or a face mask. Helps deeper reach, avoids wastage in throat and mouth area.

How To Use

Hold inhaler upright and shake well. Insert inhaler upright into spacer. Place spacer mask against face and form a good seal. Breathe out gently, into the spacer. Keep spacer horizontal and press down firmly on inhaler once. Breathe in slowly and deeply. Hold breath for about 5 seconds or as long as comfortable. While holding breath, remove spacer from mouth. Breathe out gently. Remove inhaler from spacer. If more than one dose is needed, repeat steps.

How To Clean

Clean your spacer before using it for the first time and then about once a month. It's not unusual for your spacer to look a bit cloudy. Wash your spacer in warm water with kitchen detergent and allow it to air dry. Drying with a cloth or paper towel may cause a static charge on the inside of the spacer.
